What is RememBear?
Secondly, RememBear is independently code audited to ensure it is consistently in line with the highest standards of security. As a company, we have a track record of posting our audit results publicly, having conducted the industry first audit for TunnelBear. We’re so confident we’re doing everything we can to protect you and your personal data across the board that we've now published the RememBear audit as well.
Last, but not least, we have bears (rawr!). Who doesn't trust ferocious, cuddly bears?
Where does RememBear store my information and how is it protected?RememBear encrypts your items using both your Master Password and a unique device key generated by the application. It stores your these items, including passwords, in an encrypted file on your device and on our secure servers for sync and backup purposes. However, RememBear will only encrypt and decrypt the items on your physical device. This means that your passwords and other items are always encrypted during syncing and remain encrypted when in storage on our secure servers. You and ONLY you are ever able to access your items as long as you keep your master password private.
What devices will RememBear work on?RememBear is currently available for Windows (Windows 7 and above), macOS (10.11 El Capitan and later), iOS (iOS version 9 and above) and Android (5.0 Lollipop and above) devices. You can find them on our download page.
RememBear also provides an accompanying browser extension for desktop platforms (Windows and macOS) that allows you to automatically fill login details in the username and password fields on the websites you visit. However, please be aware the extension will not work on its own - you'll need to have the desktop app installed for it to function. The RememBear browser extension is currently available for Chrome, Safari, and Firefox browsers.
What information can I store in RememBear?Currently, you can store your logins and credit card information securely in RememBear. Logins also have room for notes, which could include additional information about the login, like backup codes for the service or instructions for use. However, we're currently working on adding new functionality to all of the RememBear applications, so stay tuned for updates! If there's a specific type of item you'd like to be able to store securely in your Bear, let our friendly Support Bears know.
How do I set up RememBear?Getting started with RememBear is easy. Head over to the download page and grab RememBear for your device. Once you’ve downloaded and installed the app on your first device, you’ll be prompted to create an account. Follow the instructions to complete the process. Make sure to create a Backup Kit.
Once you have RememBear installed and ready on the first device, you can proceed to install it on other devices.
For Windows and macOS, start by opening the RememBear app window. In the sidebar menu on the right, locate the Add a New Device option and select it. Follow the instructions.
For Android and iOS, start by opening the RememBear app. Select the menu button from the top left corner (3 horizontal lines), this will open a sidebar menu from the right edge of the screen. Locate the Add a New Device option and select it. Follow the instructions.
I can’t live without "X" feature. When will RememBear have it?We’re adding new features continuously and rapidly. Some examples of big features we’re currently working on include attachment support (add files to your vault), secure notes (save secure text notes in your vault), 2FA support (use RememBear to get 2 factor authentication codes), vault export options, and much more! If you have a specific feature request in mind feel free to contact support directly and let us know!
Your RememBear Account
What is a Backup Kit and why do I need one?Your Backup Kit allows you to safely store your Master Password, New Device Key and account email address. If you ever lose access to all of your logged in devices or log out and uninstall the application, you'll need all of these to get back in.
You should be walked through creating a Backup Kit when you first create your account. If you were not or if you skipped this step originally, you can generate a Backup Kit from within the RememBear app. Here's how:
Windows/Mac: Head into your settings, and locate the 'Account' tab. There, you'll see the option to "Get Backup Kit".
Android/iOS: Head into your menu by clicking the three horizontal bars, select 'Settings' and click "Create a Backup Kit".
Whether you print your Backup Kit or write down the details by hand, be sure to store it somewhere safe. You'll need these three pieces of information (Master Password, New Device Key, and Account Email address) if you ever lose access to your account.
What should my Master Password be?Great question! You’ll need to think of something strong, but memorable. Your Master Password will be a big part of what protects all of your other passwords. It’s also the password you’ll be using to unlock RememBear on a daily basis. We recommend that you use a strong password that you’ve never used before. It should include a few random words or characters (this will keep it memorable but strong). It should also be a minimum of 8 characters long and adding a number or two into the mix wouldn’t hurt. You could even include a special character just to keep things exciting!
I’ve forgotten my Master Password. What do I do?Sorry to hear that! When you initially created your RememBear account you would have been prompted to create a Backup Kit, which you hopefully printed and stored away securely. Your Backup Kit consists of your email address, New Device Key, and Master Password. You’ll be needing the information contained within the Backup Kit to re-gain access to everything stored in RememBear.
Before you go to restore your items, make sure you have your Backup Kit in front of you. Then, download and open the RememBear app on your device. At the login screen, select the “I already have a RememBear account” prompt and follow the instructions.
If you’ve forgotten you Master Password and also lost your Backup Kit, unfortunately there is no way to recover the account. RememBear encrypts and decrypts your items directly on your physical device. This means we never have access to your Master Password, which in turn means we have no way of retrieving it from our end if you forget it (this is actually part of what makes RememBear so secure!). It’s very important to remember your Master Password and store your Backup Kit in a safe place for this very reason. If you have any questions regarding this or want to know your options are if you've lost access to your account, you can get in touch with one of our friendly Support Bears - we're happy to help!

How do I delete my account? To delete your RememBear account you’ll need to contact one of our friendly Support Bears. Once we've received the request, we’ll send you an email to complete the deletion process. At this point the account will be completely removed. If you want to continue using RememBear after this point, you'll need to create a new account from scratch.
How do I migrate to RememBear from another password manager?RememBear currently has the ability to import passwords from both LastPass and 1Password. We hope to add more import options in future versions. The import feature is currently available on RememBear for Windows and macOS. You will be able to import any login items and credit card details.
Exporting on LastPass: Find more information on exporting your passwords to a .CSV file from LastPass here.
Make sure to select the option to “Include Column Labels” during export
Exporting from 1Password: Find more information on exporting your passwords to a .CSV file from 1Password here.
Make sure to select “All Fields” and the option to “Include Column Labels” during export
Importing on Windows: Open the RememBear application, locate the gear icon on the left hand side, under the General tab, find the Import section and select browse.
You can also import passwords saved in both Chrome and Firefox* browsers. Simply head into your settings and locate the "Import from Browser" button. Then, select the browser(s) you want to import from and select the items you want to import.
*If you have a Master Password set up in Firefox, you will not be able to use this import process as your bear will not be able to decrypt your passwords.
Importing on MacOS: Open the RememBear application, select File, then select Import and click Import from another password manager.
One more step, for security reasons, don’t forget to delete the .CSV file completely once you’ve imported your passwords.
If you run into any issues importing your passwords, let our support bears know! We’re actively working to improve this feature and appreciate any feedback. We do hope to support importing passwords from even more password managers in the future, so stay tuned!

Why won't RememBear sync? There are a few reasons why RememBear might not be syncing. We’ll outline them here:
Firstly, you'll need to upgrade to a RememBear Premium subscription to enable syncing of your items across multiple devices, to read more about upgrading click here. If you're seeing 'greyed out' items or can access some of your passwords, check out the following article.
If you do not have an active Internet connection, your items will not be able to sync. You can still access all of your saved passwords, but if you add new passwords, they will not sync to other devices until you have an active Internet connection.
If RememBear isn’t syncing, it may be that there is a third-party application on your device that is interfering (eg. Anti-virus, firewall, security applications, blocked by a corporate or public network). We recommend disabling any applications you think may interfere with RememBear and try syncing again.
Though very rare, there is the possibility that RememBear servers are undergoing planned maintenance or are experiencing an unexpected issue. If this is the case, we’ll do our best to notify users. The best solution for this is to simply wait and try syncing RememBear again later.
If you're finding that RememBear is not syncing as it should, try forcing a sync. Here’s how:
RememBear for Windows and MacOS is designed to sync automatically every 10 minutes. If you’d like to force RememBear to sync, hold your mouse over the sync status. You should see "Sync Now" appear. Click this to force your bear to sync.
RememBear for Android and iOS should sync each time you open the app. If it doesn’t, you can force-sync RememBear by pulling down on your list of items. This should prompt your bear to sync up!
If you’re still having issues, or are finding that your bear is having trouble syncing, feel free to reach out to our friendly support bears here.
Why are some of my items greyed out?Greyed out items indicate that your items are not synced across devices. This will occur if you’re using a RememBear Free account. With RememBear Free, items are only available on the device where they were originally created. You can continue to use RememBear Free for as long as you want. However, you’ll need RememBear Premium to sync all of your items across multiple devices.
If you’d like access to your items across all of your devices (along with a bunch of other neat features), you’ll need to upgrade to RememBear Premium.
Why isn't RememBear autofilling my passwords? There are a few reasons why RememBear might not autofill your passwords correctly. If you're using one of our mobile applications (iOS or Android) and you're trying to log into a website using the browser app on your phone or tablet, make sure you're using the RememBear Browser. This will allow you to more easily fill passwords.
In the Android app, you'll also need to make sure that you have the autofill functions enabled on your phone. You should have set this up when you downloaded the app, but if you skipped this step during setup, simply open your RememBear app, open the Menu > Settings > RememBear Autofill > Go to Settings and follow the instructions to enable autofill. When that's done, click the back arrow and you should also see a prompt to add a floating icon. Click Go to Settings to enable the floating icon. Upon exiting the screen, you should now be able to use the floating icon to fill your passwords.
On all platforms, it's also possible that the RememBear application might not be detecting your username or password fields correctly. If this is the case, you can report site or application specific issues directly via the RememBear app without having to contact support using the instructions below. In the interim, you should be able to copy and paste your passwords manually from the RememBear application into the site or app where you're currently trying to login.
How to report issues with autofill:
Windows and macOS (via the browser extension): With your browser window open, navigate to the webpage where you’re having problems. Once there, select the RememBear extension icon, select the gear icon in the bottom right corner and select Report broken autofill. The URL field will already be populated, but you can also add some extra info about the problem if you think it will help us. When you’re done, select Send to send the report.
Android (via the RememBear Browser): Open the RememBear app and locate the item that you’re having issues with. Within the item, select the website URL to open the site in RememBear’s built-in browser. With the site open in the RememBear browser navigate to the login area of the site. Select the menu button in the top right corner (3 dots) and from the menu that appears, select Report Broken Auto Fill and follow the instructions.
iOS (via the RememBear Browser): Open the RememBear app and locate the item that you’re having issues with. Within the item, select the website URL to open the site in RememBear’s built in browser. With the site open in the RememBear browser, click the lightning bolt icon in the bottom right corner. If there's nothing to fill, you'll see a pop-up that indicates there was nothing to fill. In that pop-up, click the "report broken" button to submit your feedback.
Note that we do not respond directly to you when you submit autofill reports. However, the RememBear team are continuously reviewing reports and fixing site specific issues. If you need to contact us, you can get in touch with one of our friendly Support Bears.
Why are my past achievements not unlocked?A recent update of the RememBear app introduced Achievements. These are small tasks that you can complete to ensure that your RememBear is set up to work seamlessly across all of your devices.
If you have been using RememBear since the app was in beta (November 2017 to April 2018), there's a chance that you'll see some of these achievements still "locked." This is because you went through the account creation process before we implemented achievements on the server side, so it's impossible for us to see which achievements you've actually unlocked. Sorry about that!
If you have any achievements listed as "locked," all you have to to to unlock them is quickly repeat the action. We realize this is not ideal, but we can assure you that most of the achievements should only take a few seconds.
If you're unsure of how to unlock a specific achievement, get in touch with our friendly support bears here so they can help!
I accidentally deleted an item, how do I get it back?No problem! The RememBear app has it’s own trash can, which is where all of the items you delete end up. We do this just in case you change your mind or in case you deleted the item by accident.
If you’ve deleted an item and emptied the trash can already, unfortunately there is no way to recover these items.
What is the RememBear browser and why should I use it?The RememBear browser is built into our mobile applications (Android and iOS). It allows you to more easily use your passwords by filling passwords directly from RememBear into a browser page contained within the RememBear app. Unfortunately, if you use your regular browser app, this is not possible as many browser applications do not support autofill. If you're not finding that the RememBear browser is filling your passwords properly, see here for instructions on how to report the issue.
Can I use RememBear when I’m offline?Absolutely. When you’re offline you’ll still have access to your passwords and other information. You can also still create and edit existing items. Once an internet connection becomes available, RememBear will make sure your changes are synced to the rest of your devices.
Why don’t my browser codes match? There are a few reasons why your browser codes might not match.
It’s possible that you have the RememBear browser extension installed in more than one browser. The code you’re seeing might actually be referring to one of the other extensions. If this is the case, we recommend that you close all other browsers, open the browser you’re trying to use RememBear with and try again.
If you’re still not able to get your RememBear codes to match, we recommend that you remove the RememBear browser extension entirely and re-add it. For information on how to do so, click here.
If you’re still having trouble getting your codes to match, get in touch with our support bears here so that we can look into it.
Why do I need the full desktop application?RememBear offers a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox and Safari web browsers (more browser support coming soon).
The extension does not function as standalone app and will still require you install the full desktop application. Currently, we provide desktop applications for macOS and Windows. We do not support Chrome OS or Linux and as a result the extension will not function on these operating systems.
Why don't we just make a standalone extension? One of the key focuses of RememBear is security. When we created RememBear we wanted to make sure you and only you have access to the sensitive information you store in your Bear. As a result of some of these core security related decisions, it's not currently possible to create a standalone extension that adheres to these standards. You can learn more about how RememBear was designed in this blog post.
Can I sync my passwords to a local file only, rather than to the cloud?Unfortunately, this is not currently possible.
